Agbokim Waterfalls

Agbokim Waterfalls is in Cross River State, Nigeria. It is close to the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

Understand

Agbokim waterfalls is located in the Etung local government area of Cross River State. The waterfalls are made up of seven streams plunging down the high cliff in a cascading display of seven-part waterfalls into the tropical rainforest below.

History

Agbokim Waterfalls' discovery can be traced to the early 1900s when an Ijagam hunter named NTankum discovered the falls and the area around. He brought his families to live in the hills area to inhabit the waterfall area.

The landscape of the falls has hills and is steeply curved.

The waterfalls are about 15 kilometres from Ikom and 320 kilometres from Calabar

By plane

Margaret Ekpo International Airport (Calabar Airport) is the closest airport to the waterfalls. The distance between Calabar Airport and Agbokim Waterfalls is about 315 kilometres. Thus, if you arrive at Calabar by flight, you can get private taxis at the airport park that would take you to a motor park in the city, where you board a taxi to Ikom from where you would find another taxi to the waterfalls.

Fees and permits

There is no standard fee to visit, but one or two guides will ask for ₦1000 per person (Jan 2022) before they show you around.

Get around

Due to the remoteness of this location, the major means of transport is motorcycle but get a private taxi or charter from outside town for convenience.

There are no hotels in Agbokim. It is advised to lodge at a hotel in Ikom or Calabar.

Connect

There is availability of 2G|3G|4G telecommunication networks. All major service providers are operational, but they vary in reliability and ease of use. Its Signal strength usually fluctuates around the town, and some telecom operators in remote areas of the town may experience network outages. Like many other places in Nigeria, when planning a visit to Agbokim Waterfalls, you will need to consider purchasing multiple SIM cards for every mobile operator. Networks of different providers tend to be more stable and reliable at different times in different parts of the town.
