Agios Vlasios
Agios Vlasios, Agios Georgios Nileias, Peleokastro, Servanates, Agios Lavrentios and Strofilos are in Northwest Pelion. Since these villages are close to each other, they are considered as a single travel destination.
Understand
The name of Agios Vlasios is due to the village church, which is dedicated to its namesake saint. The oldest name of the village was Karabash or Karabasis, which in Turkish means black head.
During the Ottoman period, the settlement of Paliokastro, located in the ravine between the Upper Lechonia and Agios Vlasios, was inhabited almost exclusively by Turks. The settlement had a mosque. Its minaret was partly ruined by the end of the 20th century, when Greek vandals blew it up.
