Understand
Anambra State is located in the southeastern region of the country. It has over 11 million residents. Formed in 1976 from the former East Central State, the state is named after Omambala River, a river that runs through the state.
Anambra State has over 60% of its people living in urban areas. It is one of the most urbanized states in Nigeria.
The indigenous ethnic groups in Anambra state are the Igbo (99% of population) and small population of people who are bilingual, they live mainly in the north-western part of the state.
Anambra is rich in natural gas, crude oil, bauxite, and ceramic.[18] It has an almost 100 percent arable soil. Anambra state has many other resources in terms of agro-based activities such as fisheries and farming, as well as land cultivated for pasturing and animal husbandry.
The capital of Anambra State is Awka.
There are 21 Local Government Areas and 17,177 towns in Anambra State. The Local Government Areas are:

- Visitors to any Local Government Area in Anambra State should be aware that some animals are sacred. Such animals cannot be harmed or killed while in the Local Government Area. Examples are All Idemmiri Local Government Areas including some parts of Oyi, Dunukofia, Njikọka, Ihiala, Aguata and Ayamelum Local Government Areas do not kill or harm python.
- In Awka, do not harm or kill monkeys.
Get in
Travellers can get into Anambra State from anywhere in Nigeria. There are many cars and luxurious buses loading daily from all the major motor parks in States of Nigeria to Anambra.
By plane
Chinua Achebe International Airport is the local airport in the center of Anambra State. From this airport one can take an airport taxi to any town in Anambra State and beyond. The price range of the airport taxi starts from ₦10,000, depending on the location of town.
Asaba Cargo Airport in Asaba in Delta State, a neighboring state. From this airport, one can get an airport taxi that can take one to any part of Anambra State although the price is higher.
By road
From anywhere in Nigeria, there are direct luxury buses and cars from reputable motor companies that ply the Anambra State route on daily bases. Some of the motor company include GỤỌ Motors, God is Good Motors, Chisco Motors, The Young, Libra Motors, and Okeyson Motors.
Get around
Ways to get around in Anambra State include by trekking, public bus, private car, commercia motorcycle popularly called Okada, Commercial tricycle popularly called Keke.
Commercial buses, tricycle and motorcycle can be found in outskirt of towns that made up Anambra State. From Awka, one can get a minibus to any town in Anambra State.
Anambra State is peaceful and conducive for trekking especially in early dry season which starts in October.

Ogbunike Caves, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, is one of the most visited tourist sites in Anambra State. It is classified as a Sandstone cave (Lateritic sandstones of Campanian-Miocene age). The Owerre Ezukala caves and waterfalls are great tourist attractions in the state. Largely unexplored, the caves are said to be the largest in West Africa.
The Igbo Ukwu Museum is known for its astonishing metal crafts; it continues to attract tourists to see its bronze artifacts. They have been dated to the 9th century, and are of high value and historic relevance.

The people of Anambra State celebrate various cultural festivals and traditions, showcasing their customs, music, dance and dressing.
New Yam Festival
Although the celebration date differs from one town in Anambra to another.The aim of the celebration is same which is giving thanks for the bountiful harvest of yam. Yam is the chief crop in Anambra State.
Eat
Anambra has diverse delicacies, ranging from the spicey Chinese white soups to hamburgers, sharwarmas and Onugbu soup, a famous dish from the state.
