Aqqala

Aqqala is a city of 35,000 people (2016) in northern Iran, 20 km north of the larger city of Gorgan.

  • 🌍 Aqqala Bridge. The bridge was constructed in the 9th century with repairs being made later during the Safavid dynasty.
  • Mubarakabad Fort (former name of Aq Qala) is an old castle that is now ruined. Only the southern walls and a little from the north wall to its south are left.
  • 🌍 Gorgan Great Wall (or the Great Wall of Alexander, دیوار بزرگ گرگان). The remains of a 200-km wall run several kilometers north of the town from Gomishan east to the Golidagh mountains. It is believed you have been built in the 6th century CE.

The city market is held on Thursday. Local Turkmen people self crafts such as rugs and carpets.
