Get in and around

By plane

The nearest airports with scheduled flights are in Castlegar, Cranbrook, Calgary, and Kelowna. Calgary's airport is the largest of those and Kelowna is the next largest.

By car

Note: There is major construction to expand a 4.8 km (3.0 mi) section of the Trans-Canada Highway just east of Golden, through the Kicking Horse Canyon, to four lanes, with an anticipated completion of Winter 2023/24. Highway 1 is subject to closures that can range from 30 minutes to multiple days, depending on the season. A more updated caution box can be seen at Golden (British_Columbia)#By car.

Use Hwys 95 and 93 between Golden and Castle Junction, AB (between Lake Louise & Banff) via Radium Hot Springs as an alternate route, which will add 1.5 hours of travel time. See Kicking Horse Canyon - Phase 4 or Drive BC of more information.

(Information last updated 11 Aug 2022)

The region is bisected east-west by Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway), and for many people, this stretch is the most scenic of the highway's entire length. Exploring by car is the only reasonable way to enjoy this region.
