Beed

Beed is a city in Marathwada. It has a few interesting monuments that justify a stopover, possibly even with an overnight stay.

Understand

Bid was founded in the 13th century. The residents are not used to foreign travellers and are happy about the interest in their city.

Get in

  • Latur Airport (LTU  IATA) is the nearest airport
  • Bid is not on a railway line.
  • The bus station is not far from the city centre in the west of the city.

See

  • 🌍 Kankaleshwar Temple. Yadava meets Bauhaus – a somewhat daring synthesis of old temple building fabric (probably from the Yadava dynasty from the 13th century) and a functional factory style. The temple has a large inner dome. Muslim zealots cut off the heads of all the outer figurines. Inside, the portals to the three sanctuaries are interesting. In order to get to the temple, Kneipp wading is required when the water level in the temple pond is higher, not an easy exercise given the moss-covered stones. But you can hold on to the railing.
  • 🌍 Khandoba Temple. 1.5 km from Mansur Shah Dargah is the unusual original Khandoba Temple. It has two towers decorated with stucco and it is somewhat reminiscent of the palaces in Rajasthan.

Buildings

Heading north-west from Kankaleshwar Temple towards the river bank, well-preserved sections of the city fortifications and the Kotwali Gate can be seen.

  • 🌍 Khazana Fountain (Kajana Bavdi) (about 5 km south of the city and is 200 m west of the NH211). This site is not well known. The fountain dates from 1583. However, the visit is only worthwhile for hardcore archeology fans, because nothing spectacular opens up for the inexperienced visitor.

Monuments

  • Shahinshah Wali Dargah. A tomb of an important Muslim personality. She is always visited by believers. The Daragh is not particularly interesting architecturally, but exudes a nice atmosphere. It can be reached by walking 750 m east of Kankaleshwar Temple or by taking a car.
  • 🌍 Mansur Shah Dargah. Here are some covered tombs in a beautiful garden, one of which is made of intricately worked marble. This degree is that of the 18th century Sufi Mansur Shah. The tombs stand on the east side of the river about 1.5 km north of Kankaleshwar Temple.

Digras

  • 🌍 Kalinka Devi Mandir. Kalinka Devi Mandir is known for its great history. During the Kalinka Devi pilgrimage, people come from far and wide to seek the blessings of the Goddess kalinka devi and his four sister deities. Many devotees visit the temple of Goddess Kalinka every year, especially from the Kasar community, as Goddess Kalinka is the deity of the Kasar community. Digras is 47 km from Parli Vaijnat railway station. Bus services are provided by State Road Transport Corporation.

Parli Vaijnath

  • 🌍 Parli Vaijnath (around 100 km from Beed). Parli Vaijnath has one of 12 jyotirlingas all over the world, one of which is at Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga.

The name of the town symbolizes the Jyotirlinga. There is a shakti peeth of Goddess Yogeshwari which has a prominent place.
