Dumyat
Dumyat (دمياط, also known as Damietta in English) is a city in Lower Egypt with about 1.1 million inhabitants in the larger metro area.
Understand
A city overlooking the Mediterranean. It is, along with its twin town Ras-El-Barr (راس البر) a popular summer destination for Egyptians from nearby governantes. It is famous for domyati cheese, furniture and beaches, as well as a clothing industry which is in decline. Perhaps it is most famous, though, for being where one of the Nile's two branches in lower Egypt meets the Mediterranean. There are 5 hour slow trains from Cairo, and quicker coaches from many Egyptian cities. It is also easily accessible by road.
Get in
There are several daily trains from Cairo, with a journey time of around 5-6 hours. Hiring a private taxi is also an option, taking around three hours depending on traffic.
