The town of Eket is an industrial city that has evolved into a conurbation, bringing together various communities. The Eket Local Government Area is estimated to be around 176,000 km² with an estimated population in 2013 of 219,000 people.
The area is oil-rich, and Eket is the thriving hub of a new oil and gas business, with more than 250 companies providing support services such as catering, flights, and exports. It is the hub of Mobil Producing Nigeria operations.
