Estância

Estância is a city of 70,000 people (2020) in Sergipe. The city is also known for its tiled houses, all of which are in a deplorable state of conservation.

Understand

It is the third largest economy in the state, second only to Aracaju and Nossa Senhora do Socorro. It is the second largest industrial center in the state and has a of the largest trade in the region.

It ha a tropical climate, with the hottest months being January, March and December and the wettest months being May, June, July, August and September. Daily average temperatures range from 24 - 32 °C.

It lies 66 km (41 mi) from the state capital, Aracaju.

Passenger transport from Porto do Saco do Rio Real (Porto do Mato) to Mangue Seco in Bahia Schooner tour along the riverbanks.

The port of Sergipe, Inácio Barbosa Maritime Terminal (TMIB), in Barra dos Coqueiros, 15 km from Aracaju, has a passenger terminal, serving as a maritime entry into the State. It is 80 km from the city of Estancia.

Estância, reflecting its past economic prestige, is home to numerous historic structures from the 18th and 19th century. The tiled houses and houses, many listed by the Secretary of Culture of the Government of the State of Sergipe, ​stand out in the urban landscape.

  • House at Praça Rio Branco No. 35. A federal historic site. Colonial sobrado with hipped roof with eaves and wooden cymbals. On the ground floor there are four doors and three alternating windows with curved lintels and wooden jambs. The second floor has seven windows with balconies on wooden balustrades. The side façades of the upper floor have windows similar to those on the main façade. The rear façade presents the extension of the upper floor on masonry pilasters.
  • Eight houses on Rua Capitão Salomão, one on Rua Duque de Caxias, have been declared historic sites by the State of Sergipe.
