Ghost of Tsushima Tour
Ghost of Tsushima is a successful video game by Sucker Punch, released in 2020.
Understand
The game is set on the island of Tsushima during the invasion of Japan by the Mongolian empire. The invasions of Japan and Tsushima by the Mongolians were real historical events, although the story told through the game is highly fictionalized.
The game is an open adventure allowing you relative freedom to explore the island at your pace. Many locations that you can visit in the game are also existing in real life.
Locations
The game is divided into three parts (acts), each taking part in a different area of the islands.
Act 1 - Rescue Lord Shimura
- 🌍 Komoda Beach, Izuharamachi Kunehama. From the opening scene of the game, the real life location of the initial Mongol battle and invasion.
- 🌍 Kaneda Fortress Ruins (美津島町黒瀬), Mitsushimamachi Kurose. Castle Kaneda is encountered early in the game, where Jin attempts to free his uncle, as well as the final location of Act 1, where Jin and his allies attack the castle in a full battle.
- 🌍 Mount Shiratake (美津島町洲藻). The trek up this mountain has apparently inspired the Winding Mountain Shrine in the game.
Act 2 - Retake Castle Shimura
- 🌍 Watatsumi Shrine (和多都美神社), 55 Toyotamamachi Nii.
Act 3 - Kill Khotun Khan
Taking part in the northern part of the islands, the game depicts this area as a frozen wasteland similar to the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido that would look like this during winter. In reality Tsushima is much warmer and very rarely even sees snow during winter months.
- Statue of Soh Sukekuni in Komodahama
- Kaneda Fortress Ruins are on top of Mount Jo
- Top of the Mountain and Aso Bay
Others
A lot of the weapons used in the game can be viewed at museums in the region:
- 🌍 War Memorial of Korea (전쟁기념관), Yongsan-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Weapons such as the Hwacha (rocket launcher) were actually Korean in origin and possibly used by Mongolian forces in their invasions of Japan.
