Guelta Zemmur (Tamazight for "olive tree pool") is a city in the Western Sahara.

This is a desert region with all the hazards that implies; in particular sun protection is needed.

The town is mainly a military base, is in disputed territory, and has been the site of several battles. Much of the surrounding land has been mined; avoid travel there without local advice. See also War zone safety.
