Heathcote National Park

Heathcote National Park is in the southern areas of Sydney, on the border between the Sydney and the Illawarra. As the park is only accessible via Sydney, Wikivoyage covers it under Sydney.

Get in

Bringing private vehicles into the park is prohibited, and so you're only left with coming by train or by foot. From Heathcote, enter the park via Oliver Street and from Waterfall, enter from the northern end of Warrabin Street.

Fees and permits

There are no fees and permits required at this park as of 2021.

Get around

Bringing private vehicles into the park is prohibited, so your only choice is to walk.

See

  • 🌍 Kingfisher Pool, Bullawarring Track, Heathcote. A set of rockpools and tiny waterfalls. Includes a picnic area as well.

Do

  • The Bullawarring walking track is a 5.5 km (3.4 mi) walking track (one way) and takes about 3.4 hours to do, connecting the western and eastern parts of the park
  • Lake Toolooma trail is a five kilometre return trail and takes about 2-3 hours to do, passing through some of the lakeside areas of the park
  • Another five kilometre walk, Mooray walking track takes you through some heathland landscapes, and yet only a couple of minutes away from Metro Sydney

Eat

There are no cafes, restaurants, kiosks etc, in the park. The nearest are in the Sutherland Shire or in the suburb of Waterfall.

Camping

  • 🌍 Kingfisher Pool campground, Bullawarring Track, Heathcote. Check-in: 2PM, check-out: 10AM. A nice tucked in camping site with picnic tables, and toilets nearby. However, there is only a maximum one night stay only allowed.
  • 🌍 Lake Eckersley campground, Pipeline Trail, Heathcote. Check-in: 2PM, check-out: 10AM. As the name suggests, this campground beside Lake Eckersley is a gateway to numerous walking trails nearby, and is within walking distance to some of the rockpools.
