Another option is Lilabari Airport (IXI IATA) in Lakhimpur (67 km (42 mi)).

By bus

Overnight super express buses connect Itanagar with Guwahati and takes about 12 hours. Arunachal State Transport buses connect Itanagar with other North East cities in India.

By train

Naharlagun is the nearest railway station, which is nearly 15 km. away from the city. Taxi and bus services are easily available from the railway station to Itanagar. Donyi Polo Express can be availed which runs on all days of a week from Guwahati and Shatabdi Express is available thrice a week from Guwahati.

Inner Line Permit

Before you enter Arunachal Pradesh you need to get an inner line permit either from Arunachal Bhavan located at New Delhi or in Kolkata. There is a checkpost at the Assam Arunachal Border in Bandardowa where you need to show the permit and explain your reason for travelling. Foreign tourists too need to get this permit before they can enter in the city.
