Golden Corner
Golden Corner also referred to as the Low Country is a region in the far southern corner of South Carolina known for its large area of barrier sea islands and marshes.

- 🌍 Hunting Island State Park. This is a barrier island that is adjacent to Fripp Island and St. Helena Island. The entire island is considered to be a state park. There is a lighthouse on the island, but due to Covid, it can be visited only by reservation. There are many walking and biking forest trails. The southern most portion of the park adjoins a lagoon and beach. Mosquitoes are present in the forest trails, so bring bug repellent. Adults $8. South Carolina senior residents and children have lower entry fees.

- 🌍 Reconstruction Era National Historical Park (several historic sites in Beaufort County). The Beaufort area came under the control of the Union Army in November 1861. As a result, it was one of the first places in the United States where emancipated slaves voted, bought property and created churches, schools and businesses.
