Ma'ale Adumim
Maale Adumim is an Israeli settlement in the West Bank, east of Jerusalem. It has about 37,000 residents.
Get in
There are numerous buses from Jerusalem, most with numbers between 121-129 or 171-179.
If driving, be careful on the freeway downhill from Jerusalem. It's very steep!

- 🌍 Monastery of Martyrius (Buses 173 and 174, among others, stop here), ☏ +972 2 633-8230. The ruins of an important monastery from the Byzantine period, including some nice, well-preserved mosaics. It was excavated in the 1980s, and now sits in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It is fenced off, and you have to call ahead of time to arrange entry.
- 🌍 Monastery of Euthymius. Ruins of a large Byzantine monastery, with some mosaics. You might be able to visit by asking the guard to let you in. Otherwise, you can contact the Parks Authority or the nearby Good Samaritan Inn to arrange a paid organized tour.
- 🌍 Moshe Castel Museum of Art.
- 🌍 Lake park. A park with a lake, playground, and some restaurants. Beautiful at sunset.
