Manbij
Manbij is a city in Afrin Canton. Manbij is an ancient city, but unfortunately almost all sights have been destroyed.
Understand
The city was annexed by the Assyrians in 856 BC and later prospered under the rule of the Seleucids who made it the chief station on their main road between Antioch and Seleucia on the Tigris. In the third century, the city was one of the great cities of Roman Syria until it fell into ruins after the collapse of the Roman Empire. The Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid restored Manbij at the end of the 8th century.
Manbij have been occupied by several different factions during the Syrian Civil War. As of late 2022, the city is part of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria commonly known as Rojava.
