Mompiche

Mompiche is a small beach town in the Coastal Lowlands of Ecuador.

Understand

Mompiche is a sleepy fishing town located along the Pacific Ocean, in the northwestern part of Ecuador in the province of Esmeraldas. The town lies to the south of a large bay, which includes San Francisco at the northern end, Muisne and La Mancha in the center, and Mompiche in the south.

Once a "hidden gem" in Ecudador, Mompiche has been discovered by tourists and the number of hotels and restaurants in the town is increasing. However, it still maintains its tranquil vibe and is a great place to simply chill out.

Do

  • Beaches – there are numerous beaches along the bay, including Playa Negra, named for its black sand
  • Surf – numerous surfboard rental shops dot the town
  • Relax – not much happens in Mompiche. Instead, have a beer, watch the sunset.

Sleep

  • DMCA Surf Hostal – the original Mompiche hostel, probably the most social in town
  • The Mudhouse Hostel – an eco-friendly hostel with cabanas
  • Hotel Bernabeth – a large (for Mompiche) hotel with a pool
