Moyenne Guinee

Moyenne Guinee is a region of Guinea that includes the highland region of Fouta Djallon as well as the plains of the Tominé and Koulountou rivers.

Cities
  • 🌍 Labé — the largest city of the region, and the second largest in the country
  • 🌍 Dalaba — the highest town in Guinea (~1,300 m altitude)
  • 🌍 Koundara — the first major town in Guinea when coming from Senegal via N5 or from Guinea-Bissau via N9

Other destinations
  • 🌍 Kambadaga Falls – a stunning two-tier waterfall near the town of Pita
  • 🌍 Chute de Saala – another beautiful waterfall west of Labé
  • 🌍 Chute de Ditinn – a towering waterfall that drops straight off of a steep cliff face

Understand

The mountainous, cool area of Fouta Djallon is populated mostly by the Pular people (Peuls). It includes all of Mamou and Labe provinces and the northern part of Boke province. Due to its incredible scenery and waterfalls, Fouta Djallon is the most popular area of Guinea for tourism.

Get around

The roads are poor. In fact, they're terrible. You will need a 4WD vehicle to navigate Fouta Djallon.

Do
  • Hiking. Fouta Djallon, with gorgeous hills speckled with waterfalls, is famous for its hiking opportunities. There are hiking guides available throughout the region should you want a longer excursion. Some of the most well-known are based in Labé.
