Mutarara

Mutarara is a city in Central Mozambique.

Understand

Mutarara is notable for being at the northern end of the Dona Ana Bridge, the longest railway bridge in Africa. Until 2009, it was the lowest fixed crossing point on the river; a new road bridge at Caia is now the lowest. It is still possible to cross on foot.

Get in

Walking from Vila de Sena at the southern end of the bridge is possible. Vila de Sena can be reached by dirt road from Caia or Tete.

By car, Mutarara can be reached via Morrumbala. This requires a crossing on a hand cranked ferry. The ferry operates during normal working hours only and not between 12:00-14:00. It may not operate in adverse weather/river flow.

See

The bridge is the main attraction. The town and the bridge have good views of the Zambezi river.

Drink

There are some bars with good views of the bridge and the Zambezi river.
