Norvalspont
Norvalspont is a town of 1,200 people (2011) in the Free State province.
Understand
The name is Afrikaans for Norval’s ferry, and named after an enterprising Scot who constructed a ferry here in 1848.
Norvalspont was the site of a British concentration camp between February 1901 and October 1902.
Get in
The settlement lies some 40 km east-north-east of Colesberg and 43 km west-north-west of Venterstad, on the southern bank of the Orange River, just below the Gariep Dam.

The Glasgow Pont Hotel is a historical site, situated on the border between the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and the Free State provinces. The hotel was established in 1856 to accommodate the numerous Trekkers passing through from Colesberg into the Free State, to escape the British imperialism.
