Passo do Lontra

Passo do Lontra is in Pantanal area of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Understand

Passo do Lontra is an area in the Pantanal 8 km north of Buraco das Piranhas (police station at the crossing of roads 262 and MS-184). The area contains several lodges and farms (fazendas), where the usual wetland activities take place. More farms are further north along road MS-184, addresses are given by the number of kilometres from Buraco das Piranhas. At approx. km 40 road MS-184 meets MS-228.

Packages can be booked via travel agency or directly with the lodge/fazenda.

Get in

From Corumba: daily bus from company Cruzeiro do Sul at 14:30 (R$ 32, 2 hours), drives all the way up to the bridge at Passo do Lontra. From there your lodge/fazenda will provide a pick-up. There's also a bus at 07:00 (unconfirmed).

From Bonito: Minibus service, e.g. from Vanzella Transportes (R$ 100, 3 hours); starts and ends at Buraco das Piranhas

Get around

Your lodge will provide all transport to the activities. Public transport is non-existent. Roads MS-184 and MS-228 are only dirt roads.

  • Wetlands: explore by jungle walk or horseriding
  • Bird- and wildlife: numerous caimans, capybaras, tucans, falcons, herons and other birds; rarer, but good chances to see: anteaters, coatis, monkeys; seldomly seen: Jaguar

Common activities: Boat tours during the day and night, jungle camping, horseriding, jungle walks, jeep safaris, fishing, Kanu riding;

Buy

There's a small shop at the bridge (km 8). Your lodge will also sell water, snacks and amenities.
