Pierre-De Saurel

Pierre-De Saurel is a regional county municipality (RCM) of Montérégie, Quebec, Canada. Its head office is in Sorel-Tracy.

The main attractions of the territory of the MRC Pierre-De Saurel are:

• the Lac-Saint-Pierre Biosphere Reserve: this 90% natural reserve has terrestrial or coastal ecosystems recognized by UNESCO since 2000. In this reserve, there is a development of the territory well harmonized between the human activities and the environment. This territory offers hunting, fishing, wildlife development, vacationing, pleasure boating, merchant shipping, trade and light industry. This reserve includes one of the largest known heronries in North America and is home to 288 observed bird species, 116 of which are considered breeding;
• the Lac Saint-Pierre archipelago and its 103 islands: these islands offer a wild bucolic environment. They are cut by marshes, bays and channels. The heron is the emblem of the region. Excursions in pleasure craft (boat, kayaks, canoes, paddle board) provide access to wonderful observation sites for flora and fauna (particularly birds);
• the majestic St. Lawrence River: this river offers a landscape that changes every hour with a lively life (passage of merchant boats, pleasure boating, nautical activities, fishing, hunting) and an evolving natural environment (fog, waves created by wind or large boats, storms);
• the Downtown Sorel-Tracy: this industrial and institutional city has a great prehistory of 12,000 years and a great history for four centuries to know. This city is equipped with sports infrastructures (colosseum, swimming pools, sports fields, ice rinks...) and recreational infrastructures (Grèves regional park, Les Dunes golf club, nautical park, marinas, boat ramps, etc.). water, bike paths, municipal parks, Carré Royal...;
• the Richelieu River: its peaceful course hides its great history that we discover by stopping at each village. This waterway is a major recreational navigation route with its canal and locks; boaters benefit from numerous waterfront attractions and services;
• the great history of this territory: since the first expedition of Samuel de Champlain and his men, this valley has been a strategic theater for the protection of New France and the passage of military expeditions;
• the agrotourism: in the heart of the St. Lawrence plain, this territory offers numerous agritourism service points: rural lodges, local products (many agricultural stands along the road), rural landscapes;
• the catering services: visitors have access to a variety of dishes in the various restaurants/dining rooms on the territory. Restaurants have shown resilience by offering dine-in, take-out or delivery service; in addition, they have modernized their websites, as much for the offer of menus, orders, delivery, their product counter, the history of the site, etc.
