Port-Gentil

Port-Gentil is on Gabon's Coastal Plain.

Understand

Port-Gentil is Gabon's workhorse with offshore oil rigs and port activities humming around the city. Interestingly, Port-Gentil has no roadway connections with the rest of Gabon, and sits on a peninsula (island actually, if you consider that it is cut off from the mainland by the delta of the Ogooue River).

Get in

The connection with the rest of the world is maintained through * 🌍 Port-Gentil Airport. with transit to Libreville, and marine links, including a ferry service to Lambarene across the Ogooue River.

Get around

Taxis are available.

See

  • 🌍 Cathedrale Saint Louis, Rue de Révérend Père Bichet. a fairly majestic tropical cathedral framed by palm trees.

Do

  • 🌍 Beach Sogara (north of town).

Eat

  • 🌍 Planete Grill, Avenue de la Mosquée, +241 07570215. 18:30-23:00. Ribs, pizzas, burgers, etc. Loud music at times. Closed on Sundays.

Drink

  • 🌍 La Case. a good place for a drink on the beach

Sleep

Because of the oil and gas operations, lodging is kind of expensive here.
