Nearby Hamlet was once known as the "Hub of the Seaboard", a main interchange for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad that was something of a predecessor to today's Amtrak. There are some attractions related to that in this city:

- 🌍 Hamlet Depot & Museums, 2 Main St, Hamlet, ☏ +1 910 582-0603. Tu-F 8AM-5PM, Sa-Su 1PM-5PM. Restored Victorian train depot where the Seaboard used to make connections and be the rail service of yesteryear but now services the Amtrak Silver Star. You can visit the Hamlet Depot & Museums inside the depot and a carriage/caboose on display outside.

- Attend the annual Seaboard Festival in Hamlet, usually in mid-October.
- 🌍 Hitchcock Creek Trail, 615 Steele St. Hike along former cotton mill Pee Dee Mill #1, it meanders along the tannic waters of Hitchcock Creek.
