Sürmene
Sürmene is a town of 15,000 people (2012) in the eastern portion of the Turkish Black Sea coast, near Trabzon.
- Not to be confused with the Sümela Monastery.
Understand
Sürmene has an oceanic climate, with warm, showery summers, cool, wet winters, and low sunshine. Snow occasionally falls in winter, but melts quickly.
Get in
It is 40 km east of Trabzon, and 35 km from Rize. It is on the Black Sea coastal road.
It is possible to travel to Sürmene from most parts of Turkey by bus companies. If you get off at the Trabzon Intercity Terminal, you can reach Sürmene in approximately 30 minutes by taking the intercity road, which is 5 minutes away from the terminal, by taking the Sürmene minibuses or the Trabzon Municipality Private Buses.
There are daily flights to Trabzon from the big city centers of Turkey.
