 Sakhalin
A large and very sparsely populated island, once at the center of a long power struggle between Russia/USSR and Japan for control of its large oil and gas resources. Unfortunately, the tourist sector is long underdeveloped, but nevertheless, it's one beautiful island.
 Kuril Islands
A chain of islands in the Russian Far East, with 56 islands and stretching approximately 1,300 km northeast from Hokkaido in Japan to Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia
