Sangli is a city in South Maharashtra.

Sangli is about 390 km from Mumbai, on the border of Maharashtra and Karnataka. As a district headquarters, the city is a home for big businesses. Sangli can be described as a calm city with a very few traces of domestic violence. The people are friendly and honest compared to other metro cities. The Jain population is quite visible, along with other communities.

By plane

The nearest airport is in Pune, which is 225km from Sangli. Alternatively, Panjim Airport can also be used; it is at a similar distance, but the journey from there takes longer, due to ghat sections on the road.

By road

Sangli is well connected by road from all the major Indian cities.

From Pune: It is a 4.5-hour/225 km drive from Pune to Sangli. The drive along National Highway 48 (previously NH4) is very comfortable and pleasing to the eyes. From Kolhapur: It is a 1-hour/50 km drive to Sangli.

Sangli also has good connectivity to Solapur, Belgaum, Bangalore, Hyderabad and other major commercial hubs.

By rail

Sangli has a railway station; additionally, Miraj Junction is about 10 km from the city centre. Mutiple trains serve Sangli on the Mumbai - Pune - Miraj - Bangalore route.

Get around

One can travel in Sangli by three wheeler rickshaws or by a taxi. City bus service is also available along some major routes.

See

Patwardhan Rajawada or Palace at Sangli Fort. There is a museum too. Shree Vishnu Temple at Vishnughat on the banks of river Krishna. Rameshwaram Mandir, Krishnai Mandir all on the banks of river Krishna. There is an old bridge near these temples.

Do

Boating on river Krishna. Visit Vasant Dada Patil Smarak. Sit on the banks of river and watch the sunset.
