Ylöjärvi

Ylöjärvi is a municipality and town in Pirkanmaa in the Finnish Lakeland.

Ylöjärvi lies on the western shore of the lake Näsijärvi, to the north-west from Tampere.

The main centre of Ylöjärvi, namesake of the municipality, is part of the Tampere urban area. Viljakkala, 26 km to the north-west, lies close to Hämeenkyrö centre. Kuru, with its former parish village 40 km to the north, was merged to Ylöjärvi in 2009. Länsi- and Itä-Aure are 20 km north-west from Kuru.

Get in and around

National road 3 (part of E12) between Vaasa and Tampere runs through Ylöjärvi centre. Road 11 from Pori in the west leads through Nokia just south of Ylöjärvi. Road 65 leads from Tampere through Ylöjärvi and Kuru to Virrat, from where roads 66 and 68 continue northward.

By bus

There are coach services from Helsinki, Seinäjoki, Tampere and Vaasa. The main stop for the centre is Kumitie. Kuru has connections from Parkano in school days.
