Shaktoolik
Shaktoolik is a very small village along Norton Sound. This community has been moved twice because of encroaching seas, a result of global warming that has melted a lot of Arctic ice.
Get in
You can get in via:
- the Iditarod Trail
- the Shaktoolik Airport, which is served by Bering Air to nearby communities and Nome, which is served by Alaska Airlines.
Go next
- Ungalik, a place to stop if heading west on the Iditarod Trail
- Unalakleet, a fairly large town by Arctic standards, if going east along the Iditarod Trail. This town is about 25 miles south-southeast of Shaktoolik.
