Sindou
Sindou is a town in the Black Volta Region of Burkina Faso that is famous for the Pics de Sindou (Sindou Peaks).
Understand
Although pleasant, the town is only really notable for the peaks, which are just a few hundred metres away. The needle-like peaks are an eroded sandstone formation rising 415 m (1,362 ft) above sea level, making them the second highest point in Burkina Faso.
Get in
Sindou is about 40 km (25 mi) west of Banfora along Route 28.
Do
- Pics de Sindou. There are several observation points are on the summits. Trails leave from the car park. A guide is not necessary to find your way around but can tell you many fascinating facts about Senoufo culture and the time when the town used to be located up on the plateau. Look out for the thorned plants on the plateau, the Senoufo imported them from Mali to use the thorns to make poisoned arrows. Admission is CFA1,000. You will need to give the guide a tip.
