Sodere
Sodere is a spa town (population 1,900) in Ethiopia that has natural hot springs. It is a weekend get-away place for people from Addis Ababa.
Get in
It is 25 km south of the city of Adama. You can take the blue and white minibuses from Adama. Rental cars are also available in Adama and Addis Ababa. NTO, a tour company organizes a bus tour to Sodere from Addis.
Get around
Ride a horse-drawn cart.
Do
- The resort campus has two swimming pools filled with warm water. The large Olympic size one is open at weekends, the medium sized one mid week. This is to enable them to be refilled weekly with the thermal water. The large pool has no shallow end, but does have a small non-swimmers area at the side. The mineral water is refreshing, and there are some good masseuses that give you a massage for a reasonable price.
- Camp-fire. The hotels organize campfire events twice a week. It's a good way to meet with other tourists from different parts of the world.
Sleep
- Sodere Resort Hotel.
- Though the accommodations in Sodere try to maintain a high standard, they are somewhat overpriced. If you can, drive back to Adama, where there is a good choice of hotels.
