Somero

Somero is a town and municipality in Finland Proper.

Understand

Somero is set in a rather hilly landscape, and the municipality borders the tri-point of the regions of Finland Proper, Uusimaa and Tavastia Proper. Somero can be seen as a getaway from the busier parts of Southern Finland. Relative to its population, Somero has been home to an disproportionate number of famous Finnish musicians – tango composer Unto Mononen, singer-songwriter M.A Numminen, rock singer Lauri Badding Somerjoki and opera singer Karita Mattila.

Get in

The town is roughly in the middle of the Helsinki–Tampere–Turku triangle, and not directly served by a railway or by any of the main roads raying out from these cities.

By car

Somero is on highway 52 between Salo and Jokioinen. Going via Salo (no need to visit the centre though) is the fastest option from Turku. Coming from Helsinki, drive towards Lohja along Highway 1 or its predecessor, road 110, then follow regional roads 110 and 280. Moreover, Hämeen Härkätie, the medieval route between Turku and Hämeenlinna, passes through Somero.

By bus

There are buses from Helsinki, Salo, Turku and Forssa. See Matkahuolto,
