The Southern Mountainous area is served by Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport (MLG IATA) in Malang for domestic flight from Jakarta. All international flights, and most domestic flights, arrive at the nearest airports, Juanda International Airport in Surabaya and Yogyakarta International Airport in Yogyakarta. Then, you have to use ground transportation to get Southern Mountainous of East Java.

Eat
Javanese cuisine is familiar in Southern Mountainous. Try many styles of sate (satay) in Ponorogo, bakso Malang (meatball soup and grilled meatball) in Malang, as well. For exotic food, there is a dish made from land snail or escargot those are sate bekicot (land snail satay) and krengsengan bekicot (stir-fried land snail) in Kediri.
Drink
Because of Islamic dietary laws, most eating places do not offer alcohol. You may drink alcohol in bars in the city of Malang. You can try specialty drinks from Malang called wedang angsle, mung bean and white bread in gingery coconut milk soup. In Tulungagung, coffee is mixed with mung bean powder named kopi ijo.
