Surabaya Javanese phrasebook
Surabaya Javanese (simply known as Suroboyoan locally) is one of the linguistic varieties of Javanese language spoken predominantly in the Surabaya City and its adjacent regions (mainly in Gresik and Sidoarjo). It served as lingua franca of multicultural communities of the Greater Surabaya territorial area for centuries. These language variety belongs to the Javanesic language family in the branch of Eastern Javanese closely related and clumped under the same family with Malang–Pasuruan Javanese (known as the Arekan family). It also had significant Maduresic linguistic influence, especially Surabaya Javanese spoken in the northeastern Surabaya region.
