- π Taukkyan War Cemetery (Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery) (αα±α¬ααΊααΌαα·αΊα α αΊαααΊαΉαα»αα―ααΊαΈ), Yangon - Pyay Rd (Beyond the long distance bus terminal). 08:00-16:00 daily. The graves of over 6,000 allied soldiers and memorials together with the names of over 27,000 allied soldiers who lost their lives in Burma during the Second World War. Well-maintained by the Commonwealth Graves Commission, the sheer mass of names gives a sense of the destructive nature of war, and some sense of the destruction the war brought to Burma. From Yangon, a visit to the cemetery can easily be combined with a trip to Bago. Rent a car (USD20 round trip) or take a bus (from either the Aung Minglar Terminal or from the intersection of the Strand and Sule Pagoda Rd) (700 kyat). Flagging down a pickup (300 kyat) or bus for the return journey is easy from outside the cemetery.
