Tonk
Tonk is a town in Rajasthan. The founder of the state and its first ruler was Nawab Muhammad Amir Khan. Tonk is also known as the City of Nawabs.
Get in
Tonk is approximately 100 km by road from Jaipur. Tonk can be reached only by road. The closest railway station is Banasthali Niwai railway station, which is 38 km (24 mi) north of the town.

- Arabic & Persian Research Inst. This institute houses a superb collection of Arabic and Persian manuscripts, some of them lavishly ornamented with gold, rubies, emeralds and pearls.
- Sunheri Kothi (Mansion of Gold). The golden mansion is the focal point of Tonk. A fairly ordinary monument from the outside, the interior is richly ornamented with stained glass, mirrors, stucco, and gilt. Other interesting buildings are those built to accommodate the British officers.
- 🌍 Ranthambore National Park. Former hunting ground of Maharaja of Jaipur. In 1955, it was declared a game sanctuary; in 1980, it became a national park. With the commissioning of Project Tiger in 1972, it was included in the project.
- Banasthali Vidyapith University (40 km from Tonk). Women's university, inaugurated by former Chief Minister Hiralal Shastri.
- Temple Dev Dham Jodhpuriya (near Mashi dam at Banasthali Newai town). Dedicated to Lord Devnarayan. The temple houses the shrines of Sri Sawai Bhoj Gurjar, Taradey Panwar, Bhuna Ji and Mehandu Ji.
- Hathi Bhata (22 km from Tonk city). Built by Ram Nath Salat in 1200 AD, it's a major attraction. It is said that the Pandavas had food here during their exile.
- Bisalpur Dam and Bisaldeo Temple (about 40 km away). This dam is built on the Banas river, which is the biggest source of irrigation. Bisaldeo temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and a source of tourism, is also built here.
- Shri Diggi Kalyan Ji Tample (in the town of Malpura tehsil in Tonk district). The temple of Shri Kalyan Ji Bhagwan, considered to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple was built by King Digwa.
