Vourvourou

Vourvourou is a village in Sithonia, Greece. Vourvourou is not a typical village: it has no square or history. Rather it is a 'strip' of shops, tavernas and rooms to rent, and is almost an exclusively seasonal area with few year-round residents.

  • 🌍 Diaporos Island. Diaporos is opposite the village of Vourvourou on the Sithonia peninsula. Diaporos belongs together with: Kalogria, Ambelitsi, Kalamonisia, Prassonisi, Peristera, Agios Isodoros to a group of small, mostly uninhabited islands. You can reach them by renting a private boat (no licence needed) or paddling your own canoe to explore the various secluded coves surrounded by pines and sandy beaches. A trip there is very worthwhile, the beaches almost empty and good for snorkeling. At the narrowest point, the island is only 300 m from the mainland. There is also a boat rental company. Various agencies offer organized trips to the island of Diaporos. But it is more interesting to rent a motorboat and explore the islands on your own. In Vourvourou there are many agencies for motor boats. The price is about €50 per boat for the whole day (10:00 to 18:00). The cheapest boats have 15-25 hp and you do not need a driver's licence. The used fuel (about 8 L/hr!) is paid on delivery of the boat. Depending on the driving style that can be another €100. The boat rental must be planned in advance, as it often happens that you have to wait 3-4 days for an available boat and in the high season even more.
