Wukro

Wukro is a town in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia. It can be used as a base for exploring the rock-hewn churches of north-eastern Tigray.

Buses going between Adigrat and Mekele can drop passengers off at Wukro.

The town is small and walkable.

🌍 Wukro Chirkos. The first rock-hewn church known outside Ethiopia, and also one of the easiest to access, since it's in the town itself. Other rock-hewn churches in the area require transport. (updated Feb 2020)
