Yakurr was created out of the Obubra LGA in 1987 and it shares a boundary with Abi, Obubra, Biase and Akamkpa Local Government Areas of Cross River State, Nigeria. It is composed of 13 wards and is inhabited by the Agoi, Ibami Assign, Mkpani, Ekon, Nko Ugep and Idomi people with the dominant language being Yakurr.
Ekori is a community within Yakurr council area of Cross River State.
