Zaruma

Zaruma is a city in the Coastal Lowlands of Ecuador. It is developing as a well-known destination for ecotourism.

Being in the southern reaches of Ecuador, the climate is much drier than many other transitional places in the country. This provides for sunny weather throughout much of the year. The rainy season lasts from December to April. August is the driest month.

Get around

Zaruma is small enough that one can get from any one part of the city to another on foot. Local rancheras provide service to outlying areas, such as hiking destinations and waterfalls.

See

The central park is a quaint location to relax, and from the park, all of the city is easily accessible.

Eat

The traditional food in Zaruma is tigrillo, a mix of green plantain, egg, and campo cheese, often with a choice of meat.

Many local restaurants serve tigrillo of varying quality.
