Itaguaí

Itaguaí is a municipality of Baixada Fluminense, in Grande Rio, Rio de Janeiro state.

Itaguaí is a coastal, peripheral municipality of the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro. It is located in the region bathed by the Sepetiba Bay, and is the last municipality on the coast of the metropolis to the west. Itaguaí is crossed by the BR-101 highway, vector through which the urban expansion of the metropolitan agglomeration of Rio de Janeiro reached this municipality, having ended in its first district, where the city center in located.

The Port of Itaguaí, in Ilha da Madeira, and the Industrial District of Itaguaí, between Itaguaí and Santa Cruz (neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro), are two of the most important landmarks of the municipality's infrastructure.

Get in

Visitors generally arrive the metropolitan agglomeration of Rio de Janeiro through the airports Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG IATA). and Santos Dumont Airport (SDU IATA)., and the bus station Rodoviária Novo Rio., all in the capital. Those visitors who enter the Grande Rio area through the Central Zone of Rio can use some urban public transport lines available in downtown to go to the municipality of Itaguaí. From the Central Zone of Rio de Janeiro, urban bus and van lines depart to Itaguaí. Buses to Itaguaí depart from Terminal Américo Fontenelle, in the region of Central do Brasil, in the downtown area of Rio de Janeiro. The vans also depart from the Central do Brasil area.

The main road access to Itaguaí for those coming from downtown Rio is the BR-101 highway (Rio-Santos highway).
