Understand

Mesquita is the newest municipality in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro, having been dismembered from Nova Iguaçu in 1999. Just like Nilópolis, it is one of the main passages for people going from Nova Iguaçu to Rio de Janeiro. Mesquita is also crossed by the Japeri railway line, which connects the Central do Brasil station to the Japeri station. The stations of the Japeri line in Mesquita are Edson Passos, Mesquita (city center), and Presidente Juscelino.

In the Central Zone of Rio, there are urban bus, van and train lines to Mesquita. Buses to the municipality of Mesquita depart from Terminal Américo Fontenelle, and the trains depart from Central do Brasil train station. The vans to Mesquita also depart from the Central do Brasil area.

The main road access to Mesquita for those coming from the Rio de Janeiro city center are the Light highway (Via Light) and the Getúlio de Moura avenue.
