Oppdal
Oppdal is in Middle Norway on the Nidaros Path. It is one of Norway's main winter sport resorts, and is surrounded by national parks.
Understand
Oppdal is an alpine community which dates back to the Norwegian Iron Age. It is at a crossroads for traffic from Trondheim, the Dovrefjell mountain range, and Sunndal on the west coast.
The main industries in Oppdal today are agriculture, tourism, and some light manufacturing. It has the largest sheep population of any municipality in Norway, with 45,000 head of sheep put out to graze in the mountains every year.
Climate
Spring is the driest season and summer is the wettest season. The winters are fairly mild, but snowy weather is not that unusual on the 17 May National Day celebrations.
Get in
Oppdal is a hub for traffic between southern Norway and northern Norway with the train connection Dovrebanen and for the cross connection from MΓΈre og Romsdal. Buses partly correspond with the departures to Dovrebanen.
Oppdal has a small airport for air sports.
