Spalding

Spalding is a market town on the River Welland in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire. Spalding has been long famous as a centre of the flower bulb industry. In 2017, it was home to 34,000 people.

Trains run every hour or two from Peterborough (20 min non-stop) and continue to Sleaford, Lincoln, Gainsborough and Doncaster.

🌍 Spalding railway station is central in town. It has a staffed ticket office, machines and toilets. There's step-free access to Platform 1 for Peterborough but not for Sleaford.

Large lecture room for slide-shows and talks on the Romany way of life. Collection of Romany photographs and sketches covering the last 150 years. Fortune-telling tent and a collection of cooking utensils used on the open fire.
  • 🌍 Pinchbeck Marsh Engine, West Marsh Rd, Pinchbeck PE11 3UW, +44 1775 725861. closed in 2021. Restored beam engine which drained the fens from 1833 until the 1950s, when it was replaced by electric pumps.
  • 🌍 Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens. free.
  • 🌍 St Mary and St Nicolas Church. open daily. Work on the church started in 1284 and continues with a porch added in 2013.
